Growth allowance and soft cap
What happens when your store processes more orders than your plan includes.
Marginful never charges per-order overage fees on standard plans and never upgrades you on its own. When your store grows past its plan, this is what happens.
Step by step
| Situation | What you see | Restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Within your included orders | Usage meter and notices at 50%, 80% and 100% | None |
| Above included orders, within the growth allowance | "Growth allowance active" | None |
| Above the growth allowance in one month | A recommendation for the plan that fits | None |
| Two months in a row above the included orders | A banner recommending the plan that fits | None |
| Two months in a row above the growth allowance | A 14-day notice, by banner and email | None during the notice |
| After the notice, while this month is still above the allowance | Soft cap | Detail of the newest orders beyond the allowance is locked |
Example: a Starter store includes 500 orders a month, with a growth allowance up to 600. At 550 orders, nothing changes. At 650 orders in one month, Marginful recommends Growth. Only after two months in a row above 600, and a 14-day notice, does the soft cap start.
Pro has unlimited orders (fair use), so none of this applies on Pro.
What the soft cap locks
- In Orders, the newest orders beyond the allowance this month show a locked state. Their order number and date stay visible.
- Order exports leave those orders out with a note.
- Totals, profit, the P&L, scheduled email reports and sync are never affected. They always include every order.
How the soft cap ends
- Immediately, when you move to the plan that fits.
- Automatically, when a new month starts within your allowance.
The two-month count resets once a month ends within the growth allowance.
Stores that turn on Auto plan fit are never soft-capped.
